Pemuteran Beach
Location
Pemuteran is a beach area in the northwest of Bali, Pemuteran is a roughly 4 hour drive away from South Bali, and is usually only visited by people who will stay in the area. It is not difficult to find, but the long trip, usually through steep mountain roads, makes using a driver worth it.
Beach
With its gleaming black volcanic sandy beaches and enchanting sceneries of green hills at background, Pemuteran is a perfect illustration of Balinese philosophy on energy “Nyegara Gunung” (The fusion of energy between the mountains and the sea). offering a quiet, peaceful place to get away from crowds. It is a good base for diving, snorkelling, or visiting the West Bali National Park.
Do It
There is a coral revitalization project which is worth visiting, as well as a turtle breeding program, turtle project is a turtle breeding and release program run by one of the dive operators in co-operation with local villagers. Very much worth a visit and certainly worth your support. As this area is isolated from the open ocean by mainland Bali, there are no strong currents or waves, and kids or swimmers will have a great time in the water. The secluded beach here is mostly lined by mid-range hotels, usualy provide beach chairs and hammocks for guests. If you are not staying at a beachfront hotel, it is recommended that you bring your own beach sarong to sit on, or stop to eat in one of the hotel restaurants, after which you can usually use the hotel’s beach facilities. Trees line the beach, so it is easy to find some shade.

Turtle Hatchery
Sea turtles are one of the oldest living species on our planet. After surviving for over 100 million years, in our time their numbers are dwindling – in fact, the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora declared the Green Sea Turtle endangered and since 1979 has prohibited all international commerce in sea turtle products.
The purposes of the Reef Seen Turtle Hatchery Project are firstly, to protect the living sea turtles and secondly, to increase the chances for turtle hatchlings to reach maturity.
The hatchlings are kept at Reef Seen in a holding tank, where they are fed and cared for until they are bigger and have a greater chance of survival in the open sea. According to the season, and have eggs from three different species of sea turtles – Green, Olive Ridley, and Hawksbill. you can visit and hear the story of the project. You can also sponsor and release a juvenile turtle (numbers permitting). For this or any other form of assistance to the program you will receive a certificate of recognition.
